Help Kharoon find her family in Kashgar Xinjiang China

Story Of Kharoon from Hunder Nubra Ladakh India

Ameer Khan set out for pilgrimage from Kashgar to Mecca with his mother ( Black n white photo taken in Kashgar in 1930’s, Ameer khan and his sister) in 1940’s via Karakorum Pass through olden days silk routes. They reached Nubra valley Ladakh India after 20 days of trekking on foot with large caravan and from here they have been able to visit Mecca. He belonged to a rich family in Kashgar .

On his way back to Kashgar , his mother fell sick and could no longer able to walk across the mountain and he settled in Hunder Village in Nubra valley Ladakh. He spent 5 years in Nubra valley before his mother passed away and he had to Join indian army as a Nubra Guard to meet his daily ends with plan to return home once he earned enough. Unfortunately, it was too late and trans border trades were brought to abrupt end with Chinese revolution across the border. So, he got married a local Muslim girl and built a small house. Soon he was blessed with a baby girl and named her as Kharoon ( color photo of Kharoon, she is 57 now 2013 ).

Kharoon still lives in Hunder village with four children. She is still known as Hor-pa ( Kashgari). Sadly, she is working as a coolie to feed her children unlike her rich ancestor across the border. She wishes to trace her ancestor. If you visit her home and she will tells her story with pride and sadness in her eyes. She hopes that one day her children will visit Kashgar . She can speak Uyghur language fluently.
